High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filters Can Improve Cardiovascular Health
High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters purify not only the air, but according to a recent European study, can also significantly improved cardiovascular health.
In this study, researchers tested 21 non-smoking couples aged 60–75 over two 48-hour periods. During one 48-hour period, HEPA air filters were used in the couples’ homes. During the other 48-hour period, the filters were not present. The researchers conducted comprehensive monitoring and assessment of indoor air particulate matter and pollution levels.
The researchers found that when HEPA air filters were used in the couples’ homes, the concentration of airborne particulate matter and pollution decreased significantly by more than 60%. The average blood flow index increased by 8.1%.
Key findings and test results indicate that significantly reducing indoor airborne particulate matter and pollution levels is one of the most critical factors in improving cardiovascular health.
Note: Particles as small as 2.5 microns can be inhaled into the lungs; 40 microns is visible to the naked eye; the cross-section of a human hair is 100 microns; and a pinhole is 70 microns.
